Our OWN breeding program to pull prospect puppies from? Tell me more!

What are our goals for breeding as a company?

• Health Testing through DNA and OFA or PennHip. (All available options will be tested per breed)
• CHIC Certification for all bred parent dogs.
• 3 breeding females (Golden Retriever, Lab and Standard Poodle) by 2028.
• All females used for breeding will have AKC CGC, CGCU and CGGA before 2 years of age.
• Males sourced should have titling either in Rally, CGC's or other comparable testing.
• All parent dogs will be proven through a combination of work, titles, health and temperament assessment to continually match optimal breeding pairs. 
• By 2030 small breed female and large breed female acquired (breeds not decided on as of yet)
• Puppies will be raised according to best practices of early life rearing, socialization and neurological stimulation. Current program example (puppy culture)
• Our Trainers are doing the breeding in home to keep things small and quality high.
• Using the C3 Temperament Test (developed by an ethologist) on parent dogs and puppies to ensure Service Dog temperament.  
• Turn out litters where the temperament and structure of the dogs is to breed standard and excelling. 
• Diminish our wash out rate of dogs enrolled in the program by careful selection and proofing of our stock

We spend SO much time searching for breeders that are ethical and doing it right for our prospect puppies. Ethical breeding has become a fad and its getting harder and harder to find an actual ethical breeder. We will find many that do most things we need but lack in other area's. Our breeders are screened so heavily so that we can have more success getting dogs through the program. Finding a good breeder has become nuanced work for a service dog program and as a team we have decided, we know what we want, let's do it ourselves! We look for a whole package in a breeder and the question is, how will we be different?

Customization is our key:

It's kind of our bread and butter. Our program lives in the niche of customizing everything to our clients, so why would our breeding program be any different? We are choosing female dogs that will be raised in home and walked through the program so that we can prove them in the service dog world prior to ever breeding them. They will be health tested, temperament tested multiple times through out their time with us and program tested with task work put in. These dogs will be taken care of just like our prospect puppies. They live in a home with their trainer and be bred 3-4 times through out their peak with veterinary checks and input along the way.

Our male dogs that will be picked to breed with will be carefully selected based on their health and temperament as well. Our team has years and years behind us of finding healthy and correct temperament in parent dogs and we will employ that as we find our stud dogs to breed with. We will be requiring third party testing of some type to see that these stud dogs are also being proven. 

Once puppies are born we will be employing a puppy raising protocol to set them up for success in a service dog environment beginning on day 3 of life. Our puppies will be properly vetted and cared for and also raised in a home environment so that they can go out into the world successfully and confidently. We will use the C3 temperament test at 7-7.5 weeks old to get our first barometer of the puppies temperament and will choose puppies at that time. The puppies that have been chosen will undergo another temperament test at 12 weeks and again at 16 weeks old. After their first temperament test and once they are 8 weeks old we will begin working in the early socialization window to get the puppies out and about and seeing the world. Once they pass the 16 week test, we will enroll them into the program for our clients to pick from.
