About Phase 4

Phase 4 is designed with our handlers that have purchased a dog from the program in mind. This course will guide you through the tricky transition period and on to learning to handle your dog, playing games to further training, pattern games and finally to a full time working team. We have a journal that goes a long with this course and 6 units with in the Phase 4 series to guide us together to the final product.

Video lesson

When your service dog is dropped off to you, we have to remember we are flipping its world totally around. Our job as handlers in these first few weeks is stability, relationship building and bonding. Putting our dogs on a schedule helps them to know what is going to come next in each day. Predictability is the goal for the dog so it can work on settling into the new routine and eases some anxiety about being in a new home.

Tethering is very specific when it comes to your service dog. We are not talking about back tying in this video. Tethering means that the dog is connected to you if it is not playing outside or in the kennel. We can avoid a lot of behavior problems simply by tethering the dog as it is getting used to the home. It is a passive way of teaching the dog what to do, so the dog isn't finding all of the things it should not be doing.
